●介紹 Introduction：

在過去二十餘年，本實驗室專注於積體平面光波導模態理論的分析及電磁學特殊數值計算理論的研究。早先的研究重點包含山脊型介電質波導與平面光波導 (如陣列波導與多模干涉儀等) 的理論分析與計算，以及開發相應的數值計算方法，其中具有高精度的模態分析方法-向量耦合橫模積分方程式 (vectorial coupled transverse mode integral equation, VCTMIE) 乃是最重要的研究成果之一。近年來，實驗室的研究方向漸廣，主要包含以下幾個面向：

1. 開發兼具泛用性與精密度的頻域計算方法-相連局域場方法 (the method of connected local fields, CLF)

2. 陣列式透鏡的點擴散函數與影像增強之研究分析

3. 利用時域有限差分法計算彈性波於勘油井周遭之響應 (與美國Halliburton新加坡子公司合作)

4. 以耦模理論計算分析多核光纖 (multi-core fiber)

Over the past twenty some years, our lab has been working on developing of special theory and computational methods for modeling integrated planar light wave circuit (such as the array waveguide grating, multimode interferometer, etc.) and silicon phonics based optical waveguide devices. We developed and published vectorial coupled transverse mode integral equation, VCTMIE) for full vector dielectric waveguide mode field analysis. Recently we have shifted our focus toward developing following fields:

1. Method of connected local fields (CLF), which is a general purpose, highly accurate numerical solver for scalar and vector Helmoltz equation in complex structures.

2. Imaging resolution and quality enhancement based on lens array.

3. Time domain elastic wave propagation for oilfield acoustic logging applications.

4. Mode field analysis of multi-core optical fiber (MCF) based on rigorous couple-mode theory (CMT)

本實驗室之宗旨除了欲使同學們能將電磁波觀念深化於心，同時訓練程式撰寫與邏輯分析的能力，最重要的是在於培養同學們獨立思考的能力，而過去已畢業的各屆成員們亦已在業界或學界一展長才。若同學您對於光電磁學理論研究、自行撰寫MATLAB程式模擬計算光波導、又或者對於光學影像分析有興趣，本實驗室竭誠歡迎您們加入我們的行列。

The goal of this lab lies in the depth training of EM wave theory and physics onto our graduate students. In addition, students must also learn how to write simulation programs and think logically. We aim to develop student's ability to think and work independently. Our graduates had been working quite successfully in industries and a few in academies. If you are interested in electromagnetic wave field and learning MATLAB programming skill, or in optical imaging formation and analysis please consider joining our research group.
